virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Pastor Alexandria M Gainey
MATRIX STILETTOS are dedicated to encouraging wives, young ladies, and mothers to live a virtuous life for Christ.  The expression "virtuous woman" is from the Hebrew ishshah chayil and literally means "one of power either in mind or body, or both."  The virtuous woman of Proverbs 31 especially stands out today in contrast to the "modern woman," the product of the Feminist's Movement.  What does it mean to be a woman of virtue, as portrayed by the Proverbs 31 woman? The 1828 Noah Webster dictionary describes virtue as:

Strength, bravery, valor, moral goodness (the practice of moral duties from sincere love to God and His laws), to furnish with manners and example, a particular moral excellence (as the virtue of temperance, of chastity, of charity), excellence (or that which constitutes value and merit)…

Proverbs 31:10

The wife of noble character (hayil) is also mentioned in 12:4 (cf. “noble” in 31:29). Ruth was called “a woman of noble character” (Ruth 3:11). The word for noble character is translated “capable”.  The question who can find? (cf. Prov. 31:10) does not suggest that such women are nonexistent but that they should be admired because they, like noble men, are rare. Also they are more valuable than rubies!
